I came upon this story. It seems that pacific 3801 in Australia is going to be getting a new boiler.

Tom,

That's great news. 3801 is the 844 of Australian steam. She has been in continuous operation since the end of steam down under, however reorganizations in the Australian railways had her headed for static display. For those of you who are not familiar with her, she has the same streamlining (in lime green) as the N&W J's, and the New Haven I-5's.

Interesting that they would look overseas for a new boiler for 3801 maybe it is just to ensure compeditive bidding.

I did though meet an officer from the NSW government in Europe last September who stated she had been to Bahnbetriebswerk, Meiningen, Germany.

Last year a new boiler was delivered for 3265 that was built locally in Sydney.

See here for the story of that loco

And specifically here for the boiler

The restoration of the AD60 Garratt 6029 in Canberra has taken a different course.
That operation picked up a spare boiler that had been sold to a saw mill in the early 1970's. In excellent condition, it has been recently steamed off the cradle and is heading for a 10 year ticket.

See here for that story

The Puffing Billy's Climax 1694 boiler was sent to a boiler shop in Washington state for repairs. It's now back in Oz, and running gear repairs are now underway. 1694 is a 30-inch gauge machine that was one of the very last engines built at Corry.

Howdy All,

I just wanted to set the record straight that the Puffing Billy Climax boiler work was done by Chelatchie Boiler Works which has no affiliation with the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad.

Mr. Pappas,

Thank you for the correction.

One though could understand the failure to make that distinction after a web search and looking at all the repair links on this (free) web page:

http://www.trainweb.org/tusp/r_links.html

I did though conclude as to why the boiler was sent all the way to Chelatchie, Washington from Melbourne, Australia. That reason is reviled here:

A free boiler overhaul is a good reason to send it overseas!
