I ran across the below linked photo of one of Don Leap's former West Virginia Northern 2-8-0's which have been long stored (and often talked about) near Hyndman, PA. The engine in the photo is ex-WVN 8, later Preston RR 18. This is the "clearest" shot I've seen (online or otherwise) of 8 sitting at Hyndman. As most folks here already know, this engine and its sister locomotive are on private property and unannounced "casual" visits are NOT welcome by the owner. A couple of them are from steel companies and if I remember right 3 of them are from Germany. It's been three years since I was there video tapeing the 2-8-0's for a possible purchase. At that time he wanted 60k for both but the problem is getting them out. They would have to be trucked over a girder bridge that has no decking. Dennis dphend@wcnet.org |
