Does anyone know the recent history behind these engines? They are currently sitting in the weeds outside the base by the grain elevator by Hampton Blvd (Norfolk VA). They are GE 60 tonners and taken out of service around 1994. All the tracks onto the base have since been removed. The engines were in operating condition and one was recently overhauled. Evidently the Navy Archives had them set aside for donation to a non-profit in North Carolina which fell through. whayes@nsn.cmar.navy.mil |
