Sad news to report… the CSX technical research car the ex WRA Alabama River was involved in a grade crossing accident in Estill SC last week suffered some pretty catastrophic damage to the car. Lower fluting was ripped off one side of it, air tanks destroyed, non vestibule end damaged pretty heavily. They want 400 bucks a liner foot for fluting since it’s no longer made and they can’t flat side due to disturbing the asbestos in the car, so she’s probably made her last trip according to what I’m being told |

I have spent many days and nights in that car collecting data. When I was last in it a few years ago, there were two staterooms that seemed pretty darn original with beds to sleep in. |

If they scrap it they still have to deal with the asbestos. |

Was that one of those Pullmans with the fluting stuck on the sides? |
