I've been taking it upon myself lately to restore and score old railroad and trolley films that have fallen into the public domain. One of my latest restoration is the Mack Sennett short "Off His Trolley" they're already two prints I could find on YouTube of this movie one was in good condition but the beginning had a lot of degradation on the sides of the print the other was blurry and not good quality. I decided to go with the better quality print https://youtu.be/sGGKkj3xY3s?si=zeIreYwFGmE2bQ81 for the part of the film that were degraded during title cards I just cut them out and kept looping the good parts of the footage. For the parts with degradation where it shows action I had to remove the individual frames and clean it up in Photoshop. I'm still wondering if I should go back and edit the part where the woman's holding the letter to make it easier to read (feel free to leave feedback). I then proceeded to find music recordings that are in the public domain (anything before January 1st 1926) digitally cleans them up and synchronize them with the film.
