Post subject:  Update on Doug and Steamlocomotive.info

On January 8th I had a surgical procedure to examine the tumor sites, post chemotherapy, and to intervene with laser ablation if necessary. The surgical notes said: "The bladder and kidney sites are largely disease free. One small, atypical lesion was noted, biopsied and laser ablated. No other lesions were found." Biopsy came back this morning: "the 2mm x 2mm tissue was scar tissue."

What this means, I guess, is that I've got a few more years to play with steamlocomotive.info. I now have everything in place I need to bring the site back up. I estimate that approximately 50 hours of work will be involved in that restoration and intend to put the effort in between naps.

Thank you all for the support, kindness and warm thoughts. I'm going to do everything I can to make the site more easily managed. One upside is this: The site is written in Cold Fusion and ran on a freeware version of Cold Fusion Standard called Lucee, It worked well, but had some limitations that I coded around. The new hosting company (Media 3) offered hosting on Cold Fusion Enterprise, which affords me the opportunity to do some things in CFML that couldn't be done under the old site host.

As to the future of the site beyond my lifespan, a few things are under discussion and I'll raise those things for discussion when I'm ready.

Again thanks.

Good news! Keep my offer in mind if you get to the point of needing other options. I think it's important that the sight survives.

Great to hear, Doug. We're pulling for you health-wise. The website is secondary.

All the labs are back, the pathology reports are in, and I'm officially cancer-free. At the present time I feel confident that I could win a wrestling match with a 6 week old kitten, but hey ... it beats the alternatives. So ... I am happy to report that I'm tackling the return of steamlocomotive.info to the internet (between naps anyway) and am making pretty good progress.

Being forced to review a website as complex as this one, item-by-item has pointed out to me a number of improvements that I'd like to make, but my first goal is to put it back just as it was when it went down.

The new hosting company has spectacular tech support and has gone above and beyond to help over a couple of speedbumps I encountered. I will post more tomorrow.

Like maintaining a steam locomotive, any guess I have as to a completion date would be ridiculous and inaccurate, but I think I will be able to get it to the point where it was before in maybe 8 or 9 days. We shall see. Thank you all for your patience and your kind words.
