Pennsylvania G5s 1844 was sold for scrap in February of 1955.
Long Island Rail Road 39 was NOT. It’s time to rebuild and restore her. Along with Oyster Bay Rail Road Museum’s G5s #35, these two historic locomotives pulled the final passenger trains under steam power. While 35 is being restored and reassembled for rolling display, 39’s boiler waits at the Strasburg Railroad, ready for the repairs that will see her steaming for at least 50 years before returning to Long Island. Funds are growing but your help is absolutely required. Please donate any amount you are able to STEAM UP LONG ISLAND 39 here on Facebook or through the Railroad Museum of Long Island. Your donation will revive the most perfect commuter steam locomotive ever designed. Your donation will restore and educate longer than you can imagine.
Pennsylvania G5s 1844 is shown in her builders photo.
