Once again I'm celebrating "Dia del Ferrocarrilero", the Mexican national holiday honoring railroaders. I know some of you will join me, and I invite all of you to do so. Although the tradition was established to commemorate the heroism of Jesus Garcia de Corona, the engineer who saved the town of Nacozari from being wiped off the face of the earth when the three cars of dynamite coupled to his Porter tank engine caught fire, and he then gave his life while pulling them out of town before they exploded, the list of railroad heroes is virtually endless if you count all of the world's railroads. The date every year is NOVEMBER SEVENTH. |
