The Cassia County Museum in Burley ID has a passenger car, built as a “Hunting Car”, repurposed as a private car, then repurposed as a Show/Carnival car, at which time it carried the reputed mummified body of John Wilkes Booth. As a hunting car, it had a parlor/dining room, a bunk room with 12 bunks, and a utility area with a bathroom (with bath tub) toilets, sinks and a kitchen. Configured more as a hunting lodge than as a private car. Question… Are any other “Hunting Cars” preserved in any condition? |

Yes, I think. There was an early Northern Pacific wooden tourist car that was used, to my knowledge, for excursions on the prairie to shoot buffalo. The car was the Trolley Bar, apparently, and it featured parlor windows on both ends of the car with better than average detailing. The fire did not destroy the woodwork, just converted it to charcoal, so someone may have replicated it. It was nice looking small wood parlor car, that I saw after the fire. Thanks for the lead, but other articles say the Trolley Bar car is a Oregon-Washington Railway & Navigation Co wood coach, No 94... and if correct a 1880's 2nd class coach of unknown builder, gone by 1916. I am still looking for other "hunting cars" |
