Happy New Year everyone! I was researching a small standard gauge electric boxcab today and was wondering if anyone here could provide some updated information on the locomotive's current whereabouts. New Orleans Sewage and Water Board #50 is a small Baldwin-built electric motor that was used to shuttle freight cars between the Class I carriers and the City's Sewage Treatment plant on South Clairebourne St. Their right-of-way was street running trackage in Eagle Street. A photo of the boxcab can been found at the link below. https://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr1401/nosw50.jpg The Boxcab was retired in 1959 and placed on display at Mel Ott park where it sat, along with the unique compressed air locomotive #1. (No.#1 is now on display at the Age of Steam Roundhouse). All the railroad equipment in the park appears to have been removed in 2008. I was curious as to what happened to the #50, and the flat car that was displayed next the Boxcab? |

Unfortunately, it appears this little locomotive has been scrapped. https://pnaerc.blogspot.com/2020/02/gre ... e.html?m=1 Best wishes, Matt Nawn |

Thanks for the info Matt, I saw Frank Hicks' report, but after reading the comment, I'm not sure if Mr. Hicks is, in fact, aware of the actual disposition. I read the report a bit differently. The report struck more like a missing person being declared "dead" after a period of time, rather than a definitive outcome. I was hoping that someone from the New Orleans-area might actually have some first-hand knowledge. |
