Anybody know anything about the Kings Mountain National Military Park railroad?

Presume Nitrate refers to the photographic negative technology rather than an industrial property in the area which may have used an industrial railroad. Mica is being mined nearby today. I see open air excursion flatcars behind a little tank engine and other photos in the collection show autos from the 60s and 70s so perhaps somebody did run an excursion operation there for a very short time - I live not far from there and it was news to me. Perhaps somebody from SCRM (Swedish Creative Railway Miscreants) can chime in?

The locomotive is a 3-foot gauge Vulcan now at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture in Tifton, GA. Dave Conrad's Steam Locomotive Directory shows it built for Hardaway Contracting in 1917 and sold around 1963 to Kings Mountain State Park; sold again to Hall Carmichael of Newnan, GA, in 1972 and to the museum at Tifton in 1976. A newspaper clipping from the August 6, 1972 Atlanta Constitution shows the engine on a flatbed trailer being delivered to Mr. Carmichael, lettered for the Kings Mountain Park and also the "Little Palmetto Railroad". The article states that Mr. Carmichael bought the engine, cars and track, intending to set it up on his farm as a hobby and to entertain local children. Beyond that I have no information about Kings Mountain Military Park Railroad.

Kings Mountain National Military Park and Kings Mountain State Park are two different parks that are adjacent to each other.

The Military Park is a historic battlefield that is preserved and maintained by the National Park Service while the State Park is a recreational area run by the state of South Carolina.

Keith Rucker has done work on this locomotive and shown it on his Youtube channel. "2016 Vulcan Iron Works Steam Locomotive: Reassembly" shows it going back together after the boiler had been sent out for work.
