Hello Looking for any information on this locomotive if available. I cant seem to find very much on it. Was in contact with the Alco Archives and they don't have any information on it at all Its an Alco Cooke Works Built 10/1922 construction number 63534 Built for the Boyne City lumber Company 2-6-2T wheel arrangement

Ben, I remember trying to find technical info for your dad on the locomotive probably at least 20 years ago now without any luck. It is so long ago now, but I believe I was able to determine the archives of Alco Cook Works are at the Mohawk and Hudson Chapter of the NRHS. Online resources have improved a lot since then though, so it may be worth another try. Rob |

Until I saw this particular photo, I hadn't realized that the distinctive sand dome that the Cooke Works used on their "stock" 0-4-0T's, had also been used on a 2-6-2T. Always something new to learn about steam! Les |

Hi Les, you missing the size! This is a very tiny double ender, only 66k mass with 51k on drivers. Only 12x18 cylinder, 32" drivers -> in Baldwin classification this is tiny a 10-18-1/4D. The most 2-6-2T we know are 16/17/18x24 with 44" drivers and double that weight. If you have a big garage this loco could fit... PS The cylinder size is the same as Dan Markoff's "Eureka" 8-18C. |

Hi All, I have a lot of builders records and rosters and there was only one compiler that had any post BCL info. Here is what he showed BCL sold to Von Plattin or Von Platen Fox Chemical Co, Boyne City MI after 1927. Von P etc sold to Newbury Lumber & Chemical #3 in 1937 Newbury L&C sold to Forest Products Co #3 Memphis TN. In service 8/1961. Sold 2-1964 to a George Perkins. Perkins sold it in 1966 to a Pamela Ashley. Last known stored at Public Service RR Kansas City. Nothing here is etched in stone. Any and all corrections/additions are appreciated. Hope this helps. Still being worked on, slowly. The engine has been moved to a different location so work can continue. Looking for a compressor for the locomotive. |
