The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society recently hosted several of our friends from Nashville Steam so they could spend time learning some steam locomotive basics. The collaboration is featured in Nashville's newest "Road to Revival" episode here: LINK: https://youtu.be/i6QJOmN3aJE Nashville is 50% of the way through their rebuild of a homegrown and ALCO-built 4-8-4 destined for mainline operations in Central Tennesee. As I'm sure many can relate, the middle of any big rebuild is the most tedious chapter. The boiler and firebox look same-ish, parts, and appliances get removed, finished, wrapped up, and stored away...progress can be hard to discern at first blush. 2 million dollars for the engine's restoration has been raised so far, with $650k raised last year: https://www.nashvillesteam.org/2021/10/ ... nce-video/ As Fort Wayne has done with Nashville and other groups and organizations this year and in the past, any fire-up is a good moment to share the skills and experiences, and equally important: renew the faith. What a great idea! Not only will the training be productive but it can serve to "re-charge" the Nashville crew! |
