Hi, Does anyone have any updates on Pennsy RS3 number 8479? The last update I could find was from 2015 and apparently she was still sitting in the weeds in Swedeland, PA. Thomas Dyrek |

It's still there. Nothing has new has happened to it. It's not really visible from Rt. 23 anymore. It's really grown in around it now. |

The last time I heard the unit was still in Swedeland, PA under a lot of vegetation. Our Long Island guys had decided against obtaining the steam generator and it has sat there ever since. The ARHS gave us a hefty price of 30k to get it the hell out of there but its current condition doesn't make it worth the try. Maybe 15 or 20 so years ago we could've said yes but now it's just worthless. The generator, prime mover and boiler are intact but heavily vandalized and corroded. |

It's been a couple years since I've gone back to see it as it's not easily accessed and even then it's had a lot of parts taken off of it. The prime mover is missing most of the power assemblies. The radiators have been cut out and the cab is pretty much stripped. I'd imagine that most of it has walked the 1,000 or so feet up to the scrap yard that's just west of where the locomotive sits. |
