Former Detroit Yukon Mining Company locomotive No. 3, CN 3024, incorrectly identified as Northern Light, Power, Coal & Transportation Co. No. 3, now resides in California. Although it operated at Coal Creek, it was, at the time, property of the Canadian Klondyke Mining Company. Joe Boyle, of the Canadian Klondyke Mining Company, had leased the Northern Light, Power and Coal Company plant. The Yukon Consolidated Gold Company later acquired all assets of the Northern Light, Power and Coal Company and Canadian Klondyke Mining Company when both went into receivership. Former Detroit Yukon Mining Company locomotive No. 4, CN 3025 is incorrectly identified as Northern Light, Power, Coal & Transportation Co. No. 4. Detroit Yukon Mining Co. No. 1 is CN 3022. The missing Detroit Yukon Mining Co. No. 2 was CN 3023. All four Detroit Yukon Mining Company locomotives were completed in April 1904, with 6x10 cylinders, 23 inch drivers, weighing 7 tons. These locomotive were configured to burn wood with a maximum steam pressure of 150 lbs. With exception to the time when Joe Boyle leased the Coal Creek facilities, as a potential source of electricity for Canadian Klondike Mining Company dredges No. 3 and 4, there was no legal connection between these companies. The Coal Creek Coal Company managed the Coal Creek operation from 1903 to 1906. From 1906 to 1909, it was the Sourdough Coal Company and from 1909 to 1918 the Northern Light, Power and Coal Company. The 0-6-0 locomotives used at Coal Creek were originally built for the Spokane & Montrose Motor Railroad as "street motors". CN 922, built in 1888, with 8x12 cylinders, 25 inch drivers, weighing 12 tons, is at the Transportation Museum in Whitehorse while CN 1167, built in 1890, with 9x14 cylinders, 28 inch drivers, weighing 14 tons. is located outside Whitehorse. |

Thank you so much for the wonderful information. Got my database straightened out and am much happier for it. Curiosity: Detroit Yukon Mining Co. No. 1 (http://steamlocomotive.info/vlocomotive ... splay=1827) was reported sold in 2005 and is said to be in Ontario. Anyone have further information? |

I believe the loco you seek is in Puslinch, Ontario at the Ontario Steam Heritage Museum. The history of it's movements is found in the Canadian Trackside Guide published by the Bytown Railway Society.
