Congrats to the line for completing and placing in use its turntable at the steam shop in Bryson City. It is the 38th turntable to be moved and put in use by a tourist line or museum. But there is a question about which one it is as the line was thought to have two of them. This is probably the 75 foot one from Unity, ME, but there is a possibility it is the 85 foot ex-PRR one from Berwick, PA. Can anyone clear this up and say what is planned for the other one? The short one is ex-Bangor & Aroostook from Limestone, ME, and this was its second move as it came to Unity in 1994. The ex-PRR one was moved to NC by 1994, exactly when is uncertain.

Looks like it is the one from Unity. The plans for the turntable were posted on their photo gallery for 1702.

I was down there yesterday watching it work. They say it is the Unity turntable, I concur as I inspected the Unity turntable when it was on B&ML. Toward the end at Unity, they hadn't pumped out the pit for months and I was really concerned about the center bearing condition. They said it came out just fine. It's really nice, looks like it was just delivered from the erecting shop.

If you look at the drawings, you'll see pilings under the center bearing, ring rail, pit. That was reportedly the biggest difficulty with construction - soils.

What happened to the one that the Know & Kane had at Marienville, PA?

I was at the auction in October 2008 and I recall it was already gone by then. Part of the auction was in the roundhouse, but all that was in there was track tools, small misc stuff and some collectibles.

Remember that Kovalchick Salvage bought the entire K&K as a 'railroad', then began abandonment proceedings, rather than the other way around.

Last I know Kovalchick had removed, but not sold, the turntable - but that's been at least a year ago. If he does still have it, it's probably down in Indiana, PA.

It was a rather odd 'above ground' turntable the way it was done there, if anybody needs shots of it I have them. I have a shot of it with the rails removed but the bridge still installed.
