Post subject:  Marker , Switch Lamp and lantern visibility standards

Hi All,

Just wondering what the minimum visibility distance requirements were for kerosene lanterns and marker or switch lamps back in the days that they used them. I assume lanterns had the shortest distance and marker or switch lamps needed to be visible something like a mile away under clear conditions. What about order boards or semaphore signals? When did the standards come into effect?

Thanks very much for any information.

Jason
