The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum at Galeton, PA has had a Shay for a long time and just recently got a Climax from the Pennsylvania RR Museum. Where did the lumber museum's Heisler come from and when did they get it? |

The two-truck Climax at the RRMPA was offered to the PA Lumber Museum by the previous museum director, who has moved on. The offer was conditional upon the lumber museum building a shed for it, if I recall correctly. At this time, however, it remains deep inside the museum at Strasburg. To my knowledge, the lumber museum does not have a Heisler, only the Shay, which is from the Ely=Thomas Lumber Co. mill at Fenwick, WVa. |

This article is from a year ago: The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in Galeton is lined up to be the next home of a rare Climax Locomotive engine, recently offered by the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. The addition will complete the lumber museum’s collection of all three kinds of trains used in logging the hilly terrain of northern Pennsylvania during the turn of the 20th century. “It’s really exciting because in the future having all three logging railroad engines to exhibit at the Lumber Museum is a great feat to accomplish,” Berberich said. “The Heislers are very rare. They’re all quite rare.” |

I finally made contact with the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum. They do not and never did have a Heisler. That was a mis-quote by a reporter. The transfer of the Climax from the Pennsylvania RR Museum is on hold and may or may not happen. |
