Better hurry- if they keep up the current pace that engine's liable to be under steam next month. As of earlier this week, the smokebox internals have been removed, superheaters, tubes and flues are out, and the jacket and lagging have been removed. |

Quote: Better hurry- if they keep up the current pace that engine's liable to be under steam next month I have to admit, December 7th of this year would be a really neat and symbolic date for the 611's first fire up, coming back to life exactly 20 years after the last fire had been dropped. |

What issues are or were known to need addressing beyond or as part of the required boiler work? Sounds like, legality aside, she could have been safely fired up and run as is but there are probably some things that need attention, no? Steve |

The firebox, cylinders, brakes, valve gear, running gear, driving wheels, trailing truck, cab, appliances and tender all need just some minor work. |

Is there a reason the work is being done outside? With that wonderful, HUGE backshop building, I'd think it would fit nicely in there. |

765 original restoration was done fully outside, so not impossible, just a decent location and protected is good. I'm sure they will find indoors in time if not already in the plans. |

Some new Photos went up at https://www.facebook.com/#!/Fireup611. Really moving along. It's kind of neat to see so much work going on outside. 765 and 2926 both done outside. Per Bev they will move her without tender inside once they dont need to use the fork lift. |

Question: What will happen to the 611 after 2015, when NS has completed its goals for the 21st Century Steam program? |
