QJ Preservation

The following note was posted to steamlocomotive.info for an industrial 2-10-2 QJ 2694 said to be operational at Huangling, Henan, China.

I have no confidence whatsoever in the accuracy of this report, but would be interested to know if anyone else has heard this.

What about the IAIS and RJC's QJ's,aren't these considered operational as well?

That is about as a bizzare posting that I've ever seen unless Mr. Bush is actually involved but I'll ask around.

Okay, so a QJ is steam, and were it not that so many U.S. locomotives stand around, waiting for a magic wand, I could get excited. Now, a QJ rebuilt to look like an American locomotive might capture my greater interest. The Chinese have preserved a bunch. and several are stored in the USA. I'd rather stick to North American heritage locomotives which are hard on their luck.
Just my opinion.

Really? How many Chinese steam locomotives are currently in the US, anyway? I always thought there were just a few...

Iowa State Railway, R.J. Corman. Those are the three I know of. The Brits have one at Yorkshire as well.

Okay: 2-8-2 JS 8419 at the Boone and Scenic Valley RR
Two SY class 2-8-2's, one at Bel-Del and the other at the Valley RR
Three QJs RJ Corman's and the two at Iowa Interstate.

I think that's all.

There was a scheme in the 1980s to purchase some NG 0-8-0 logging locos for use in a rebuilt CO NG line, but nothing ever came of rebuilding the line or buying the locomotives.

I've asked around and came up with the following:

The loco may still exist but it is not in use in China. There are no QJ in use in China today. It's last place of work was here:

I asked (Eureka owner) Dan Marcoff if he knew anything, his reply "no". And that there was nowhere for it to run in the area either.

Having said that, it was suggested (by others) if those promoting the new tourist line on the AZ/CA border are involved?
