Hi to all after 6 days of devastating rain and damage to car 57 and caboose 2516 I have had enough and went in search of accommodation again for these fragile objects. A few hours later as luck would have it I came back with this....a deactivated ICBM site for all the projects 57, 2516, Car 3 Geneva and the double deck bus plus more. all for $100 a month..... Will keep you posted on the move date and open days ! Mike Pannell

Should be an interesting reuse adaptation! Just how much damage did the rain incur, Mike? |

What an amazing site, Mike! That should definitely keep your precious cars safe from just about any conceivable risk. Is there still power to the structure, or would you use a generator? Steve Hunter |

No real particular damage but the snow and wet just isn't fair on a wooden car or caboose, we have a generator and can also fire the stoves even inside the silo ! but there is electricity too. Mike |

Is (or was) the roof retractable on that facility? That looks like an awesome place. What are the overall dimensions? Would be great to see your cars in there. |

Not sure about interior dimensions, doorway is 25ft wide and 30ft high, the roof used to open yes but is now sealed closed, it took 8 weeks just to close one half back in 67....and then the Russians panicked and the site was raided by soldiers ...they thought it was being reactivated !! Goodness knows what they will think of a wooden Pullman ICBM. Mike |

Is the yellow thing inside an overhead crane? If it still works, that could be a huge benefit to you! |

Yes the crane is there but someone stole the ladder, its on stainless rollers and rolls too easily, but it will be great for changing the bus engines, it was used to hoist the missiles and stuff. |

Is that an Atlas missile silo? |

That retractable roof could be very handy if you ever need to do some heavy crane work- but whatever you do, be sure to call Moscow and Beijing before you open it! :-) Steve Hunter |
