Well, me being the procrastinator of my class, I have waited till the night before to do my project. This is for statistics and I figured you guys would be the best group to ask.

My question is which motive power do you prefer? Steam, diesel or electric?

Since I have to have this in by tomorrow I am going to have to cut the poll at 9 PM central time.

Thanks, lets hope I get a good grade lol

Austin

Tried submitting three times; the polling device rejected all three attempts. Put me down for steam.

just as like a general preference. I myself like steam for all of its attributes. I could take care of one given that I had the money and the time.

Just to be weird, horses... we pull our trains with Belgian draft horses. We have a couple of Plymouth gas locos as reserve (note, not diesel) and host visiting steam.

Most of our membership gets excited by the steam, but a significant number of visitors prefer the horses. Check our web site at www.spcrr.org

I'm a big steam fan, but my vote goes to electric

Both VGN and N&W had electric divisions to get over the toughest grades and were very successful. Neither is highly popularly celebrated noted, but the railroads knew it, and did it. Milwaukee road/Northern Pacific both had electrified divisions.

Electric operations like that can be powered from a variety of sources.

Diesels are electric engines with onboard generators so they are still...electric.
But your stuck fairly much to one power source.
With today's energy prices, we're looking at alternatives, electric and steam might see an edge back.
