Post subject:  RyPN - Possible Downtime

Due to the forecasted potential of Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast there is a chance that RyPN may experience some downtime in the next few days.

The building which we are hosted in (for a paltry amount I might add) is not a datacenter. In the case of power failure to the building the UPS powering the server will only last for about 30 minutes. Once the UPS is almost devoid of power the server detects this and will shut down automatically. It will not power back up until power is restored to the building which could be a significant amount of time.

Given the electrical history of this building vs big storms it is highly likely that we might be down at some point in the next few days.

stay safe above all. they are already telling us that there may be power outages for up to ten days. we have had a half dozen outages over the summer, all for multiple days. we've always had occasional outages, but never for days at a time.

You mean no one wants to lend you an M420W to sit in the street making electricity?
