These two Santa Fe, 40" refrigerators and a steel caboose are displayed trackside in Needles, adjacent to the BNSF yard. While the neighborhood is, perhaps, not perfect, it's experienced a revival of sorts since I last stopped here. Kiwanis has taken on the caboose, which needed much attention in the past. The twin reefers have been repaired and look very nice, albeit their serial numbers are painted over. The old Harvey House is a candidate for heavy renovation, and the train watching is impeccable!

The reefers do look a lot better than the last time I went through about 6 years ago. Glad to see. Cabooses don't excite me as much as preserved freight cars.

I am enamored with the Santa Fe from yardli its at San Bernadino all the way to Kingman. Streetcar-like frequency, incredible scenery and more rusted remants of man than any photographer of machinery could ask for... and miles of "real" Route 66.

I was out there in September while on vacation. I gave myself 2 days to railfan, so I drove from LA where I was staying all the way to Winslow, AZ. Never have I seen such scenery, and the amount of train traffic is insane. Makes me embarrassed to know I work for a class one that can't even get trains into or out of the yard. These guys move. And there's nothing like seeing a headlight on the horizon, knowing that it's miles and miles away.

I did stop in Needles, and saw the cars pictured here. Thought the fidelity of the paint jobs looked kind of "goofy", but I'm glad they're here. I think the old station is being refurbished, as it was all fenced off. I seem to recall the signs advertising some sort of contractor maybe? I didn't stay long.

Absolutely on the mark. These TOFC and Stack trains roll at 75 mph, and there's no end to them. I like to think that every one of those cars is a truck off the roads. Hard to believe there is a recession on, with so much traffic rockin' at high speed.

what's the story with the misaligned logo on the caboose?
must have been intentional..is it prototypical?
