Now, I'm reading a book on the Burlington Northern's history, pre-1995. At the end of the book is a chapter devoted specifically to the F-units that were used. It appears that some were used to power rotory plows. Are any left on BNSF? Is there any in a museum, aside from the two that were overhauled for the executive specials?

There's three preserved BN F-units (in the Pacific Northwest) that I can think of.

-One is NP 7012 A at the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad in Mineral, WA.

-The second is Great Northern 724, now at the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad in Garibaldi, OR.

-The last one is a former B-unit (since converted to a heater car) at the Lake Whatcom Railway in Wickersham, WA.

The Diesel Shop (http://www.thedieselshop.us/) has a listing of preserved F-units; the BN units are listed under their pre-BN merger owner's names (NP, GN, etc.), though, except for the "executive" F9s. There may be some of the RSPUs (converted F9 A and B units) still on BNSF property, but they've probably been replaced by GP28Ps, which were meant to power the rotary snowplows as well as be slug mothers.

Burlington Northern F-units BN-1 and BN-2 are in the collection of Illinois Railway Museum. This is the link to the internal combustion locomotive roster page: http://www.irm.org/roster/diesel.html

These units were used for special trains, etc. for a while prior to the BNSF merger.
These are reported to have been rebuilt to 38-2 specs. (mechanically similar to GP38-2 ?).

IRM also has BN-3 which is a E-9AM.

ALCo Fs also made it into BN colors. Diesel Shop lists Spokane Portland & Seattle a FA-1 and an FB-1 as existing. The FA-1 was SP&S 866 and then BN 4120. I could not find info on if the B unit (SP&S 868B) was ever in BN colors. Both are owned by private parties.

I think that FA is at the Portland, OR roundhouse. Last picture I saw was it in primer.

It's been moved to outside storage due to the roundhouse 'eviction'.
