In addition to all the other things the 261 group is working on this winter has been doing repairs/upgrades/renovations to a number of its passenger cars.

Cedar Rapids (the Skytop Lounge)
Several windows replaced with new FRA approved safety glass. Woodwork restored or in some places replaced and stained to match, and the interior repainted to "as-built" colors.

Wisconsin Valley
Enhancements made this winter include:
  • New light fixtures recessed in new mahogany trimmed maple ceiling panels
  • Elegant ceiling fan installed and old carpet wrapped valences and mismatching windowsills replaced and trimmed in smooth mahogany

Car 2450
Crews are in the process of adding a matching oak bar back and cabinetry to make the baggage/concession car more efficient. Also addition a television screen with a global positioning satellite display so passengers will be able to follow the train's progress. They hope to someday add small cameras on the 261.
