I recently took a ride on NJT's riverline and north of the Roebling stop there in the middle of a field was two or three little GE critters and a crane. Also near the Roebling stop was what appeared to be an old gondola under what used to be the gantry crane for Roebling Steel. Are there any plans for these items and do any historical groups have claims to them?
And can anyone provide pictures of these items?

Thanks

I could be mistaken, and although not on "display", but aren't they part of the Roebling Museum?

Looks like an interesting Museum.

They are indeed at the Roebling museum. There a few other old Roebling pieces still in existence. We have the mid '60s 100 ton GE centercab diesel, gondola, hopper, and flat car for carrying coiled steel. The hopper is an old EL car. We also managed to collect a few sets of friction bearing trucks. A lot of stuff went to scrap.

All of our equipment is on both sides of the walking trail in Pemberton Township, Burlington County NJ. Check out our website at http://www.pthtrust.org. Our administrator has been ill so it is a bit out of date but it gives you the basics of our little operation. You can walk the trail and look at all of our equipment including a very early, narrow body (not narrow gauge) CNJ caboose, an N5c, the chassis of an N6b, one of the last NX23s, a PS-1 box car, and a 1923 Tidewater tank car. And we just acquired a railbus. It had a 1937 Ford front end. If you are near and can volunteer to help us restore this equipment, let me know in a PM.

We are located in the old North Pemberton train station which was restored in 1995 and is part of the rail yard complex which we intend to retore. We rebuilt the section house in 2000 on it's original foundation. We have excavated the old bunk house foundation and hope to get that back up soon. Two summers ago we dug out the old ash pit that was built in the 1850s and filled about 100 years later. We have located the turntable pit and plan to excavate that one day. Before they built the super Wawa, we had also located the foundations of the general store, hay press building and coal dump. Stop by any Saturday that it isn't raining ans we are usually working on something.

Later!
Mr. Ed

The Roebling estate near Savannah, GA is now the hme of the Skidaway Marine Science Institute and well worth visiting (even thought there are no railroad exhibits) should you find yourself with a couple hours to spare after visiting the roundhouse and riding the trolley. Uncle Bubba's - Paula Deen's brothers place - isn't too far away and the waits for dinner are genrally much less than at Lady and Sons.

It is official! We are the proud owners of the last 45 ton GE center cab diesel to come out of Roebling. We took delivery of it today! It currently sits on a stick of track near the 100 ton GE diesel we got from Roebling six or seven years ago. Our Roebling collection is now closed. The only thing left up there is the 80 ton GE center cab and that will probably go to scrap since no one nearby wanted it. And the few people who did want it were out west and couldn't afford the cost of moving it. I forgot my camera but will get some photos from those who didn't and get them posted.

Good for you and the 45T. Nice to see preservation alive.

Thanks.

It is sad that the lone survivor at Roebling, the 80 T will most likely go to scrap since we couldn't find a new owner for it. The cost to move it was just too much for the organizations that did express an interest in it.

Could Mr. Ed please contact me through the RYPN site e-mails. I may be able to do something with that GE 80 ton unit. I was contacted a few days ago by someone wanting a cheap 80 ton locomotive and they can move it.

Well, that's a miracle! I'm amazed by how that turned around so fast.

Did it not look like the 80T would get scrapped, and those who wanted it didn't have funds for moving it?

Communication is now miraculous? Maybe among certain of the people who work in my office.......but more likely business as usual in a forum dedicated (after all) to communication. What's unusual about this is it is direct and to the point and substantively adds something of potential consequence to the discussion....unlike "what a miracle."

I am at a loss here, to understand the remarks by daylight4449.

I know nothing about these locomotives prior to the discussion on this board. I am not concerned about anyone previously being unable to move this GE 80 ton locomotive, it is not my concern.

I buy, sell and broker locomotives and railroad equipment. I tried sending an e-mail to a poster and it went to the wrong person, so I posted my question here.

I had someone contact me last week looking for a cheap GE 80 ton locomotive, so I am trying to get some contact informatiomn on the locomotive. I was hoping that the Mr. Ed who appears to have been involved in getting another locomotive from the site would reply to me.

As for moving the locomotive, it is just another piece of machinery.

I am moved several railroad cars as well as several locomotives by truck. Included in those moves was a GE 80 ton locomotive, which ended up weighing 90 ton, not 80.

I did receive one e-mail from someone else that was kind enough to respond and he told me that this 80 ton locomotive may be too far gone for anything but scrap.
