Does anyone have a firm knowledge of what SERM in Duluth plans on doing with GM 203 ? It's a terrible shame to allow such a treasure to simply rust away and deterioriate to where it could never be rebuilt. Speaking of rebuilding, I remember that Bill Purdie once looked it over. Has any serious consideration been made recently as to rebuilding it ? Has the boiler undergone ultrasound tests ? Thanks, The REPAIR Group |

Last I was aware, she was undergoing a cleaning up and cosmetic restoration. dave |

Actually, it looks like they've made other cosmetic progress. Their Heisler locomotive looks really nice, restored to it's former Campbell Limestone self. My question to the OP is what is your angle? I'm sure SERM, like many other museums would appreiate the help. |

Not sure what need or agenda is served by the anonymous handle, but I'll be a good sport and answer the question. 203 is next in line for cosmetic restoration after A&WP 290 and Southern 1509, which are currently in the shop. As any professionals and active volunteers are keenly aware, well done restorations are not completed overnight, nor are they accomplished with the wave of a magic wand. No consideration has been made towards and operational restoration for the same reason that 290, 750, 21, and any other medium to large size locomotives in the area are not being restored to operation: No where to run.
