Howdy Folks,

With summer tomorrow there is much progress at the Railroad Museum of Long Island(RMLI) Riverhead Museum. Restoration continues with our projects while visitors come and enjoy the history of Long Island

Caboose C-68
After much work completed in the fall of 2009, Project Manager Anthony DeBellis(me) solely in 10 started the summer season off with some fresh paint on 68. On Saturday 68 got a second coat of gloss black paint on the roof with safety orange on her car body with some black also applied to the under body and some other details. As you can see she looks amazing, with only a few more days of minor detail work remaining. A once brown caboose is once again in her proud Dashing Dan Era orange.

Progress continues with the museum's operating locomotive. Rot has been cut out of the locomotive's cab with new pieces of metal cut with some already welded back into place. Rot has also continued to be removed from the inside floor of the cab. A box that helps to protect the engine's motor was also removed and cleaned up with it's shape made into a better rectangle. When the LIRR put a new engine in, it was bigger then the old one so a small box was added so it would fit properly.

Once an eye soar is now one the best looking things on the property. The entire building had been painted with added details to come. More recent pictures to come in the next report

I want to note that Anthony is a regular at the RMLI, and is sometimes one of two workers to show up. His loyalty to his RR and the RMLI is remarkable, and should be noted. Fans gripe about why a particular locomotive or car looks so poorly, yet they never lift a finger except to complain. Anthony has dragged his hinder out to make things happen. Every museum should have a flock of such dedicated youngsters.
