I read the article and I didn't see anything about the trail not lasting. Sounds like there is development scheduled at one end, but not on the trail itself. Is there more to the story?

It sounds to me like the trail is not threatened. The writer is lamenting that the trail is being rendered useless by elimination of a parking lot at one end.
