Hey all this is a reminder for all who would like to help cosmetic restore a real pice of Scranton, PA. history, Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad No. 565.
only of Two locomotives in the world.

You'll need to wear steel toe boots and clothes you don't mind getting dirty, bring a change of clothing they have a locker room. and your lunch or you can go to the food court next door in the Scranton mall.

We'll meet at the main Parking lot at 9:30am. near the ticket booth. Then if you haven't already sign out a volunteer App. I'll take you to the visitor desk and have you sign one out or you can fill one out over the inter net. for Steamtown NHS. and state for Project 565.https://www.volunteer.gov/gov/uiapply.cfm?ID=3980 , then we'll take a walk over to Locomotive Shop's office so you can fill out two work forums
Please come out and help? There's a lot to be done and I can't do it all my self.
Please let me know if your coming.

We want to get the Lead truck back on ASP. so we then can move her safely to the drop pit and drop out her first set of drivers, to put the journals and springs on. of course this will take time till that lead truck is ready a few parts need to be made and one pice needs to be welded. But there is plenty of other parts that needs to be sandblasted and primer painted. we have I think Five bins of parts that need to be cleaned.

So please pitch in a hand and come out and volunteer.

Thank you ,
Len.
Ps. Let's not let Steve"AFBoone" down. Remember he's over in Iraq defending our country.

"Comedic"? I thought Steamtown was regarded by many as a tragedy?
At the "show" is on-going.

Len, it was too good to pass up. Take it in stride. Just don't paint 565 in "Wild West" colors or give her a balloon stack, be faithful to the locomotive as she was in her last days of Lackawanna service, and nobody will be laughing. Trust me.

Well we are hoping to make it look as she was when she rolled out of the Alco shop when first built for the DL&W in 1908. So that means anything she had then we hope she'll have again.

We do have her head light and back light, just not the marker lamps, but there easy to come by.

So in a few months, I hope she'll be looking like a 2-6-0 in stead of a 0-6-0 . But the key thing is we need a lot of help to bring her back to what she looked like in the past. Then she'll be the high light of the Lackawanna area once more, sitting proud in the 1902 round house where she sat once before many years ago.

She'll be the first Steam locomotive you'll see as you enter the roundhouse museum.

In her Wild Wild west color, not!!!

She be painted gloss black up top and flat black under body with Graphite color smoke box, with white wall tires and Lackawanna in Yellow paint and 565 on her tender and cab and Steam dome.

and a plaque talking about her life on the DL&W RR.

But to have this all happen, we need your help! As Uncle Sam said " I want you to served"

Len.
