| Post subject: | Steam at Steamtown |
I'm taking my grandson to Steamtown this weekend and we have tickets for the Saturday run to Moscow. I've been reading where the 2317 is getting close to going down for her 1472 day inspection and I've seen where the 3254 is in the shop for a bearing problem so I'm curious if Steamtown will have any steam up for hauling this train? This will be his first trip to see a steamtown and would love to have him see some live steam. Does anyone know what the status of steam is for this weekend? |

If all goes well with tomorrow's (Wednesday) test run(s) of the 3254, there will be 2 steamers running this Saturday at Steamtown. The 3254 will run up the hill and 2317 will be on the yard shuttle. Your grandson will be in for a treat. Bruce |

Jay, If you get there early, (a little before 9:00) You can watch while they are being made ready for the day. Lots of noise steam and smoke. Very interesting.Don;t forget to say hello. Bruce |

Don't forget the Electric City trolley ride. Your grandson will love the tunnel & you might even see a bear by the tracks, as I did last summer. |

Jay By all means, do the Trolley too if you can, it's a heck of a ride. I THINK everything went well with the 3254, it just went by my window... If you can't make it in early, be sure and hang around in the afternoon, you'll get to see the 2 engines put away and if you're into pictures, the light is pretty good that time of day (if it's not raining - this is Scranton!). To the gents that responded to my question "THANK YOU"... My grandson is only 2 1/2 years old but everytime he comes to my house the first thing he does is point to the computer and say's "Choo Choo grandpa". I'll bring up a couple of you tube videos of steam and he loves it. I think he'll get quite a thrill out of seeing live steam this weekend. Somewhere I have a couple pictures of my daughter (his mom) standing in front of the Reading 2102, 20 some odd years ago in Jim Thorpe, PA so I'm going to try and get a shot of him doing the same. CAN"T WAIT FOR THIS WEEKEND !!! Jay |

Jay: My grandaughter is also 2 1/2 years and loves trains. We are able to go to Boone, NC, often, to ride the 3ft. narrow gauge steam powered railroad at Tweetsie Railroad & Amusement Park. She would rather ride the "pufferbelly"(her name for steam locomotives)all day long, rather than ride the amusment rides. She is amazed at the smoke billowing up and the cinders that fall on her. I am a total railfan, but the thrill of steam is so strong- even for a 2 1/2 year old girl. Enjoy your rail trip this weekend ! Mark Lewis/30 miles South of REAL narrow gauge STEAM railroading. |

Had a GREAT time at Steamtown yesterday and my grandson was thrilled. We had the chance to see and ride the 2317 through the yard and the trip to Moscow pulled by the 3254 was a blast. Each and every member of the steamtown staff were very helpful and friendly. We'll be back next year with both grandsons... Jay |

Jay, Glad you and your grandson had a great time. Did you get the chance to se the switching moves at the end of the day? It was like a locomotive ballet with both steamers working in close proximity to each other. Great stuff! Bruce BTW If you took the shuttle, you walked right by me when you got on. Thanks for visiting! |

Jay, Glad you had a good time. If you bought snacks at Moscow, you might have seen me putting in some volunteer time selling snacks at the station. White shirt, 35 ish... Anyway, glad you enjoyed yourself. Dave Crosby |
