Hi All, I thought I should post some images of Wellington and Manawatu Railway No.9s restoration progress. First off for those that don't know this engine was recovered from a river in New Zealands south island is is currently undergoing restoration in Wellington, NZ. The current plan is to restore the tender first and once this is nearing completion we will start on the locomotive. Restoration has work has been pretty steady for the last 18 months with volenteers working on the engine on Saturdays and Thursday nights when possible. First the tender frames were cleaned up and repaired and then the two tender trucks had missing components fabricated and were been completely rebuilt. On 21st of May we put the tender frames back on the trucks for the first time since 1926. We're now working on fund raising towards making a new tender tank and will start building all the smaller detail pieces (steps, toolboxes etc.) needed to complete the tender. Photos of the tender are available on my flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/18854674@N04/ And more information on the recovery of the engine and the trust working on it is available on the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Trusts website http://www.wmrt.org.nz/ Feel free to ask any questions or make comment. |

Big job, bro. You've got a few weeks' work ahead of you. Good luck with it. Cheers, Bob (from across the dtch). |
