With the recent posts on starting a museum, I found the following statement interesting. It appears in a short article by Chris Woolston titled He Brakes for robots in the May-June issue of VIA: AAA Traveler's Companion. It is a Q&A with Doug Kirby, co-founder of the website roadsideamerica.com. To the question "What makes a place worth a stop" his response included the following:

Quote:
And we like surprises. When we visit a shiny new museum, we'll plan to see it later when things have started to fall apart.

Also notable in the issue was the lack of western tourist line advertising. I remember in years past, there would be a half-dozen ads for the various lines in each issue. This issue had ads for Grand Canyon Dieselized and one for Roaring Camp Railroads (no wine-country trains, no Skunk, etc.) This heading into the travel season.
