At the October 2008 auction of the Knox & Kane rail equipment, a local man bought car PVM 872, which consists of the body of a wooden 1881 vintage New York Elevated coach sitting on the frame of a PRR caboose, which is most likely from the N6 series. I've had some recent discussions with the owner, who appreciates the rarity of the piece and would be willing to sell it for preservation rather than scrapping it on site. The wooden coach body needs considerable work, primarily the center of the clearstory having fallen in over the winter, but otherwise survived the winter fairly well. The carbody sits on a stretched PRR caboose frame, likely a N6 as several were acquired by the Penn View Mountain in the 1960's.

The frame could be shortened back to it's original length and a new PRR caboose body built by an experienced woodworker. These were one of or the most common PRR cabooses (sorry, cabin cars) in their day, but I understand that there are about a half dozen left in existance. This is probably your last chance to get a frame if you are ambitious enought to consider building a new body.

The car has to be moved by 6/30/09 or it will be scrapped on site prior to that date. There are three other cars being moved out from this location (Marienville PA) prior to the deadline, so several movers have been to and will be at the site. Serious inquires only, please, and I will pass you along to the owner.

I have no financial stake in this, just getting the word out.

Nick,

I am glad to see you're making an effort on this. I tried over a year ago to interest several groups but none felt they could take it on.

Thanks Alan

For it's age, it's really not too bad. If only someone had inside storage and restoration space. The car was indoors from the early 80's until last summer.

I recently contacted some folks at the Kingston Trolley Museum, it would fit well into the collection there. I hope they are interested.

If this car is going to be scrapped are they willing to sell the couplers and cushioning system? The company I work for Miner Enterprises, Inc. is looking to obtain old equipment we manufactured for our company museum.

What is the relationship between this car and those which ran on the Second Avenue Elevated? I think I see a family resemblance...
