If this spring is any sign of what this summer has in store... it will surely be a great steam year.

Already this year Wasatch Railroad Contractors has seen three big steamers operate. Two of which have actually been operated in part by WRC.

The first was in March with the operation of the 141 R 568 in Switzerland. This was our second trip operating the big steamer. This is a beautiful locomotive and very big for the region. It is a very modern and robust locomotive! You can read about our most recent Switzerland trip at http://projects.wrrc.us/?p=402.

Also in March WRC was present for the spring operation of the 2472 at the Niles Canyon Railway. The locomotive did a great job and our hat is off to the entire crew at the Golden Gate Railroad Museum as well as to the volunteers of the NCRy. These two groups do a great job! More photos of our trip to Niles Canyon can be seen here: http://projects.wrrc.us/?p=423

David Varley of the 2472 group was the leader of the mechanical events on Saturday and Sunday. Thanks to the hard work of the volunteer staff of the GGRM, the 2472 has once again returned to the high iron.

Last but not least and one of our all time favorites, WRC was present for the departure of the 844 west out of Cheyenne on April 11, 2009. The 844 holds a special place in our heart as we spent a great deal of time working on the new firebox that was installed some three years ago... Wow time flies! The 844 is doing great and will no doubt put on a fine show over the course of the next month. We tip our hat to the UP Steam Crew as they head out of town and wish them a great trip with no problems.
