If every potential preservationist saw a series of photos like these emphasizing the massive scope of a total restoration of this nature, I fear that NO diesels would ever get preserved........ I shudder to think what we'll be up against if/when we start preserving diesels that involve computer modules.......

The 2 preserved ex-Wisconsin Central SD-45's are Q-tron computer equipped (Q-tron installation engineered by an IRM member, when he was a WC electrician)

It's amazing how much work needs to be done to an older Diesel, just to prepare it for a "simple paint job". IRM's former CB&Q SD-24 is in it's 8th (and hopefully final) year of prep work, involving repairing rust damage to various areas (including most of the short hood floor and subfloor), and backdating the pilots, stepwells and other details to "as built" configuration.

How readily available are GP-35 engine parts? I know it's a 567, but it's the very last 567...

I can only hope that someday I get to do as much work on a blue SD40-2...
