Hi folks,

In 1940, TMER&L sold 4 interurbans to the London & Port Stanley in Ontario.

When the passenger operations ended in 1955, the cars were sold to a scrapper.

2 interurbans, 1129 and 1135, were sold to IRM where they are on display today.

1 interurban, of unknown number, became a cottage in Grand Bend.

Unfortunately one side has a 15 foot hole cut in it and is a very nice cottage so it won't be returning to rails anytime soon.

That leaves one TMER&L/L&PS interurban to be accounted.

So does anyone know if the 4th interurban became a cottage? If the scrapper was willing to sell one car body, why not a second to another buyer?

And if it did become a cottage, does anyone know where it ended up?

Just curious.

Charles

I am quite well versed on the L&PS and know what still exists and doesn't exist. If the 4th car still existed I would probably know about it. I am 99.9% sure it was cut up and turned into a 1961 Chev. ;)

The reason that I was asking is that every once in a while I read about that there are rumors of a car "in the woods" and Grand Bend is definitely a community. It made me think that there was a 4th car.

Car 23 was one of those "cars in the woods" for a long time. I thought it was long gone until a friend of mine spotted an old coach in Grand Bend used as a cottage. I went up there a few weeks later having no idea of the history of the coach. As soon as I saw it I knew what it was. I took a few pictures and went home to look up some old photographs to confirm it. I was right. :)
