Steamlocomotive.info is Down

Due to a rather substantial error by one of our technicians, the entire steamlocomotive.info website was deleted about two hours ago, along with the two most recent backups.

The databases, happily, are intact. Not so happily, any photography contributed since August 12, 2008 is missing. Also the version of the website code that has been recovered from backup needs to be checked as it is put back on line to make sure that the modifications made to it to protect the system from SQL Inject attacks are in place and are functioning properly.

So, I suppose you'll see the site begin to come back online in a few hours, though I scarcely think it worth the effort at this point.

Doug,

It is most definitely worth the effort. It is one of the best steam locomotive resources on the web. I am sure that many of us feel the same way. Thanks for all of your hard work in bringing this site to us.

Thanks for the kind words. Parts of the site are back up. Browse works. Search doesn't. Search and the rest of the site should be back tomorrow, minus those photos submitted between August 12th, 2008 and today.

You'll see broken links for those images until I get some new code in place tomorrow. The folks who submitted photos between August 12, 2008 and today are being contacted by email and asked to resubmit their images.

If you're one of our contributing photographers, please accept my apologies for this inconvenience. The Coldfusion and Java programs which make up the website are being rewritten to automatically store contributed images both within the website, and in an offsite storage system so this cannot happen again (I hope).
