>From Lee Rainey:

>>The first FEBT Rockhill work session of 2009 will take place
>>Saturday and Sunday, January 10-11, 2009.
>>
>>We will work from 9 am to dark Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm
>>Sunday. We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.
>>
>>MEALS
>>Breakfast both days and dinner on Saturday will be available at the
>>Iron Rail B&B, across the street from the depot. Lunch will be
>>offered both days by RTY. Please RSVP to me by Thursday evening,
>>January 8, at 10 p.m. if you plan to join eat any of these meals.
>>
>>WEATHER
>>Our projects will be highly dependent on the weather. So far this
>>winter in Central Pennsylvania has been highly changeable, ranging
>>from single digits two weeks ago to near 60 the day after
>>Christmas. The current AccuWeather.com long-range forecast for the
>>January 10-11 weekend is highs in the 20s, lows in the teens. Visit
>>www.accuweather.com and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the
>>latest weather as we approach the date. In case of a forecast for
>>serious snow or ice on Friday night or Saturday that will make
>>travel hazardous, drop me an email or call to see if we are still going to work
>>
>>COMBINE 14
>>We will be moving to the next stage of the combine work: the
>>preparation for jacking and gluing once the weather warms. This
>>will involve removing the remaining siding between the windows and
>>then milling the side posts to accept the new plywood web girders.
>>I know some of the boxcar crew is planning to transition to this
>>project, and we can use additional word workers to join us. Bring
>>hand carpentry tools and hand-held plunge routers with that can
>>take 3/4 off a 2x4. Some of this work will be in our heated paint
>>shop, but we'll do the milling outdoors, so bring warm clothes,
>>gloves and ear protectors. Lee Rainey will lead this project.
>>
>>BOILERHOUSE
>>The Boiler Rats will be working in the coming year on fabricating
>>new roof trusses and a composite beam. Jim Bacon will lead this
>>project. Heavy-duty hand power tools are useful on this crew.
>>Remember their motto: anything smaller than a 4x4 is just trim.
>>
>>MAIN SHOPS
>>The Glass Rattlers typically spend the winter in sash repair unless
>>the weather is unusually mild. Bring carpentry and glazing tools.
>>Chris Coleman will lead this project.
>>
>>GARAGE
>>Bill Adams will lead the work on the garage. This is carpentry
>>work, and light power tools are useful.
>>
>>GROUND RULES
>>To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the
>>FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are
>>guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.
>>
>>Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if
>>possible, drop me an email in advance to let me know that you are
>>coming. It helps with the planning.
>>
>>See you there!

-------- Original Message --------
Subject: CANCELLED -- FEBT Rockhill work session January 10-11
Date: Thu, 8 Jan 2009 20:08:37 EST
From: LeeRainey@aol.com

The FEBT Rockhill work session January 10-11 is CANCELLED, for both
Saturday and Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch as follows
for Huntingdon and surrounding counties: "IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY
NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF SIX INCHES OR MORE
ARE POSSIBLE FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT . . . SLEET
AND FREEZING RAIN MAY MIX IN AT TIMES ACROSS THE SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS
AND LOWER SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. "

My colleagues at AccuWeather believe the snow will begin about 2am
Saturday and continue until 8 pm, and agree that 6" is possible.

Since we have people who travel tomorrow to get to the session, we
needed to make a decision based on the information available this evening.

The storm is expected to be past on Sunday. Perhaps I will see some of
you at the Joller presentation in Huntingdon. Otherwise, our next
session is February 7-8.

Lee Rainey
