While viewing a DVD on the railroads in military service, a Christmas gift of my daughter, there is a short clip of Winston Churchill's train carrying him to a Quebec meeting with FDR during the war. CNR 6218 is the locomotive pulling the Prime Minister's train.
Has any group taken interest in repairing the severe external and internal damage this loco has incurred on display?

The locomotive is owned by the Town of Fort Erie. It is looked after by a museum board. For many years they did very little to look after her, and even now continue to do very little in the way of stabilizing what is left. 6218 is in need of major cosmetic repairs, but is not unlike many other steam locomotives that are plinthed in the middle of no where, or on display at a museum. Engines like this, unfortunately, are abundant throughout North America. Yes she is a rather famous and popular steam locomotive in Canadian history, much like 6167, which is finally receiving much needed attention after years of neglect, and of course 6060, which is still in operation. There are lots of people in this area that would like to see her in better condition. However, with the way the economy is going, and cutbacks in government spending, its unlikely the Town is going to spend a ton of money to bring her back to a more decent appearance. I'm not being negative towards them, it's only my opinion. Even a simple roof overhead would be better than nothing.
I must admit though, even the group I founded/represent is in a similar situation. While we don't yet have a permanent home, we do have a steam engine. It is in storage at this time, and will be moved when we get our permanent home. However, she is in very rough shape. There are holes in the smoke box door, the cab is heavily deteriorated, no floor in the cab, etc. The big difference here is, 1. ours is only an 0-4-0ST, and 2. we already have the plan in place for the cosmetic restoration, and know exactly what will be done when it finally comes home to Niagara.

What can that 0-4-0 weigh? 50 tons? Its not a big deal to move and shouldn't be expensive. Probably 4k at most. Hire a small crane at $100 an hour, pick off the saddle tank and cab to reduce the weight some. Then get a detachable just like you had for the diesel and roll the 0-4-0 up onto the trailer. If it costs more than that then you are hiring the wrong people. Unless there is something else going on here...

I'll let you know what it costs to move our GE 70 tonner in two truck loads including cranes at both ends after the move is made.

Ken - kind of off-topic, but:

What ever happened to those 2 0-6-0s that the original owner of Marineland brought over from europe? I can remember seeing them years ago, before they went into storage behind Marineland in Niagara Falls.
