Hi,

I wish to recall and honor and thank the American Warriors (regardless of the opinion as to weather the particular war in question was good or bad) that put their lives on the line for the Freedom of the United States (and their beliefs in the case of the Confederacy). Weather it be the Revolution, Union, Confederate, Mexican-American, Spanish-American, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Cuba (Bay of Pigs), Kosavo, Iraq, Balkins/Yugoslavia, Lebanon, Afganistan, and the many other battle fields they have fought on.

As from Hee-Haw, SaaaaaLute!

For each of us Memorial Day has its own meaning and significance with memories of friends, family and total strangers who went forth and served our nation at its various times of need. It is a time to pause and give thanks for the wonderful freedoms we enjoy and remember the ones that sacrificed their lives so that we may be continue to be free. We should not forget the men and women that were wounded during these fights for our freedom and not let them down in there time of need for their sacrifice was great also.

Alone and far removed from earthly care
The noble ruins of men lie buried here.
You were strong men, good men
Endowed with youth and much the will to live
I hear no protest from the mute lips of the dead.
They rest; there is no more to give.
So long my comrades,
Sleep ye where you fell upon the field.
But tread softly please March o'er
my heart with ease
March on and on,
But to God alone we kneel.
Audie Murphy

I first saw these words when I was learning about Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown. My first active duty assignment was at Ft. Myer, VA adjacent to the cemetery and the Headquarters of the Old Guard. I spent a lot of time working as a medic with the Old Guard so had a first hand view of ceremonies and the changing of the guard at the Tomb. It was a very sobering and maturing experience for a 19 yr old kid from Kansas.

"Here Rests
In Honored Glory
An American Soldier
Known But To God"

These are the words on the Tomb of the Unknown.

As a veteran of 29 years in the US Army, I appreciate your sentiments. It's the sacrifice of those who have served and died since Revolutionary War times that allows us today to enjoy our hobby/avocation and to write these small words in this forum.

Thanks!
