Post subject:  NY Museum of Transportation/Trolley rides extended

Cool.....but how much further did the museum extend the line? Neither the article nor the museum's website give details. It could be the writer used the verb "extended" as a synonym for "offered."

My geuss would be that they extended the wire, thus extending the trolley ride over existing trackage. The NYMT shares their line with the R&GV (Rochester NRHS) at the other end.

That's correct; NYMT has extended their wire further down the line towards the R&GVRRM end, resulting in an electrified portion that is about 3,000' or so. They are continuing to work on bracket arms and other overhead hardware with the idea of extending the electrified portion further over time.

Frank is correct. The NYMT currently has a little over 0.5 mile of the shared 1.8 mile demonstration railroad that links the NYMT to the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum under wire. The poles are in place and work is ongoing to have approx. one mile under wire by mid-summer 2008.

The NYMT currently operates two former Philadelphia & Western Strafford cars, #161 and #168. Here is a YouTube video I shot and produced of #161 running last Sunday as part of the two museums' public operations. We operate together to give our visitors two museums to visit with a railroad ride in the middle.
