This is off-topic, but perhaps someone can help.. My new computer has Windows Me. After a half hour or so of use, thumbnail photographs will not enlarge, appearing only as a rectangle with an X in the corner. If I reboot, they work ok again for a while, then do the same thing over again. This is annoying when looking for something on the ABPR or other websites, and requires up to ten reboots per day. When it goes haywire, sometimes links in e-mails will not work either. My RoadRunner provider says it is not in their system and must be the computer or Windows. After an hour of Muzak on the Dell Computer help line, Achmed said he was not able to help me, then hung up. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any advice? bobyar2001@yahoo.com |

Bob,you may find that it's easier to speak Arabic than to troubleshoot computers. My advice would be to contact Microsoft at MSN.com or re-try Roadrunner and ask for a supervisor. Brian How to Speak Arabic bhebert@rypn.org |

Let me just say this, those of use who work in a technial support related position, it can be pure heck at times (I work in the network computing department at my university. We get lots of kids who don't know how to use their computer) Anyway, it would seem that this is more of a browser related problem than anything else. I would suggest that you look into upgrading your browser, either Netscape or IE. For IE, if you open up your current version of IE and go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com, you can do that and add all of the various security updates, and patches. It will take a little while on dial up, but it is worth it. wilkidm@wku.edu |

Ok Bob... I'm not a technician, but I've experienced the same thing before with my machine. I think it's a "file-type" problem. sometimes a page will load, and of the 5 images loading, only 3 will appear correctly, while the remaining 2 appear as only empty, white boxes with small red x's in the upper corner. I have yet to solve the problem completely, but I think you may check to see that your computer is willing to accept images OTHER than JPEG files...just a thought.. Good Luck, Frank> Let me just say this, those of use who work > in a technial support related position, it > can be pure heck at times (I work in the > network computing department at my > university. Let me say this as gracefully as I can...ME stands for Misery Edition. Sorriest POS that Microsoft ever issued. After nearly 2 years of trying, I couldn't get it ever to work without hanging or crashing, and couldn't safely upgrade to Win2K. Far as I know, Microsoft never put out any updates or bug fixes, so perhaps even they gave up on it. I use Win2K on the laptop and XP on the new desktop, and neither has caused any major problems. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer to your problem, but spare yourself years of potential misery and get rid of ME ASAP! Happy New Year and Best Wishes to All.
