Does anyone know anything about a locomotive builder by the name of "Green Island".

The only product of this builder that I know of was a Camel Back 2-8-0 that operated on the Quebec Montreal & Southern Railway (as #150), until CN acquired the line in 1929, and scrapped the engine in 1930 (as number 1985 Class M-9-a).

According to CN Steam Power it had the boiler number 51 and was built in either 1884 or 1889, and a photo of the engine can be found on page 46.

D&H had their shops at Green Island, just north of Colonie, during the late 1800s and early 1900s. They did major rebuilds and also new production locomotives. Green Island was shut down following the opening of the Colonie shops in 1912.

Jim Shaugnessy's D&H book references a locomotive Class E-1 2-8-0, built new Schenectady 1867, rebuilt D&H Green Island, number 51, 1899 and sold to QM&S December 1920.

Probably the same locomotive.
