The Fire Up 611 facebook page just put a video up of the crew working on getting the valve gear and the cylinders and whatever else back together. All the rods are back on! Painting is complete and shows so in the video except the front part of the running board. Thank You to the entire crew for making this lifelong dream come true!

She's alive again. . .

What else can one say?

Thanks NS, Spencer, and everyone else. . .

Three Rebel yells for the 611! :-) Man does it look good to see her in motion again. I wish I was there to see her move in person, but my mom had a stroke last month, so I am tied to the Gopher State for the immediate future. (Don't worry, she is pulling through it and will come out as rehabbed as the 611.)

Looking at the feed on TRAINS newswire, I'll take 40 mph over no mph any day. Thank you Mr. Moorman for bringing back mainline steam in the east.

I was snake bit catching the live feed. every time 611 would come into view my mobile would lock up @#^%#@!! I did catch the change of plans in Salisbury. She couldn't make it around the wye because of a track alignment issue from recent track work. Cab and tender too close for comfort. So she backed up and returned to Spencer in reverse. Now either the train gets sent back down to turn it or they do it one car at a time in Spencer on the table.

Same luck here. We had a tiny bit of extra bandwidth so I tried to watch, the feed cut out, and when I came back they were chatting about how great the Thomasville runby was and moving on to the next spot. No matter--somebody got video and I got to hear her whistle.

I'm pretty sure that's not correct, because I caught one of the last legs of the live feed (Duke Hill?) and 611 was pointed forwards headed back towards Spencer.

At any rate, it's great to see it out operating again.

As a veteran of many trips from Atlanta to Toccoa, I got to watch her ease around the wye in Toccoa. If 2-10-4 #610 could do it then so could 611. They greased the rails just in case. Here she is on 11/2/1986 (being pulled backwards through) correction: pulling herself through the tight curve of the wye.

Where did it go? Where did it go? It was just here and now it isn't.
