A great situation for China, allowing them to harvest the "value added" in producing high priced wind and solar products they sell to other countries that have legislated themselves into their use. Meanwhile they generate power with modern coal fired steam plants that are less expensive to build and operate. It would seem that there is indeed a place where modern steam technology is competitive, it is in power generation in China.

Only for now. Eventually that bastion will fall. Maybe not tomorrow, but it will eventually happen. Infrastructure is not static-it's always changing. Many countries that have not legislated clean energy will adopt it due to the ability to produce low cost local power.
