This post has nothing to do with the town of Orbisonia, Pa,, or the East Broad Top RR,, it still is informal to everyone even tho it mainly deals with equipment in England,, the title is a bit misleading...
The post does deal with Railroads in the United States,,, for a few posts,, Pat.

I honestly am not sympathetic to those who are disappointed when the thread title doesn't precisely match their expectations and they lose ten seconds of their life.

I don't like it when multiple threads are started on the same topic over time, it makes the board jumbled and difficult to research a topic later, and the current thread already covers the pop-up metro idea in detail. It has relevance not just for the re-used equipment (it would not likely be UK equipment in the US if the idea caught on, only the new technology would be) but also for preserving track that no longer has freight customers but has potential for passengers. The old CR&IC interurban mentioned earlier in the thread is an excellent example, the bike trail people (actually, the land speculation people who don't like anything industrial where they are planning to build upscale housing) are trying to tear it up, but the pop-up metro idea would at a minimum prove that transit could be useful as a precursor to an expensive electrification.
