That loco at Kennedy Playground was scrapped, I was told repeatedly.

A side note is that the loco originally here was 1876-built 3-foot-gauge Santa Cruz RR 3 "Pacific," now at the Smithsonian (I think); the swap-out for this loco supposedly happened ca. 1975, with the loco being put in the Arts & Industries Building as part of a "recreation" of the 1876 Centennial Exposition, as I recall:

My understanding was that Brother J. David was seeking documentation on this loco for his updated Steam Locomotive Directory of North America; anyone got the data for him?

I miss the days when you could see the sales price without a login on OMR... I'm REALLY curious what they want for this engine. Given that it looks incredibly complete and what looks like fiberglass coming out on the underside of the boiler as opposed to everyone's friendly neighborhood cancerous material? At bare minimum you've got a readily transportable locomotive that can serve as an excellent teaching tool just as it sits. Some fresh paint and you've got a display-condition locomotive.

This showed up on Facebook today. The description mentions that it has a steam generator. Maybe in addition to the boiler? Who writes this stuff, anyway? And 1945 seem late for slide valves.

The Ozark listing shows a build date of 1914.

I clicked on the Ozark link, two posts above my comment, and it clearly says 1945. But then again, this is Ozark. No surprise.

One place in the ad says 20 tons. A different place in the ad says 15 tons. My guess on the build date would be 1914 or thereabouts (look at the Porter tag on the steam chest).

Porter was outshopping these up through the 1940's, pretty much until the end of steam production with slide valves. They were all soaks, and there was no real need for piston valves. Just look at all the former Carbon Limestone locomotives out there....

If you count Davenport, the end of slide valve type locomotive production was sometime in the 50's, we have some examples in Colorado built for Great Western Sugar. They look an awful lot like Porter dinkies. While I think that this one was probably built around WWI, we won't know for sure until we know for sure.

Actually, alcoguy1 almost had it exactly in his post of June 21, 2013.
Bock Lumber Co. #1 is to be found operable at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson, IN; owned by Fred Habercamp who restored it at Dave Kloke's shop. In 2019 Dave also built a new boiler for it.
There is a long list of intermediate owners which will be found in a 2nd edition of "The Steam Locomotive Directory of North America" which I hope will be published in 2023 by Rudy Garbely (I have yet to finish writing captions for the photos).

The locomotive pictured above on a trailer being sold by Ozark Mountain Railcar is H.K.Porter c/n 7998, built 4/1946 for the H.C. Frick Coke Co. It was sold to Max Noble in 8/1961. He had it in a cute little engine house at a coke(?) plant at Fairchance, PA. I saw it ca.1976. At that time it had a current Commonwealth of Pennsylvania boiler certificate for 140 psi. I spoke with him and learned that he fired up his little locomotive a couple of times a year and ran it around plant.

Folks who have the 1st edition of "THE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE DIRECTORY OF NORTH AMERICA" will note that I had the driving wheel diameter wrong for this locomotive which of course meant that I had the tractive effort wrong as well. Be advised that this (and several thousand other items) has been corrected, "lost" locomotives found, missing information found, incorrect information corrected, additional locomotives located, etc. (end of cleverly hidden commercial message)...

Built in 1946 --- Now we know for sure that I guessed wrong. I'll be looking forward to getting my fresh copy of J David's magnum opus, as no doubt many others are as well.
