Well, the pictures of this stuff are easy to find, but if you read the write-ups (not always as easy to find), quite often this stuff is made of scrounged parts from newer throw-away junk. Stuff like brass finials off of lamps. Now, not all of it's that way, but often it's either that or stuff that's already been thrown out - at least the stuff I've read.

It's actually a VW bug, modified using a kit to look like an older car. One of the things he mentions in his write-up is that this was important to him, as he's not rebuilding/modifying a classic antique car.

Here is a steampunk float from a parade in Europe. The link was shown just recently on Mr. Yarger's photo group on yahoo.

It seems to me to be a good example of steampunk. About the aesthetics and fun, with a smattering of mechanics. I would be curious if there ever was a practical application of steampunk philosophy. I don't think there is one.
